The listed hospital charges are a set list of prices for services, which are the same for all patients. What a patient actually pays can vary depending on: 

• Private Insurance agreements (negotiated rates between the hospital and insurance companies) 
• Public Insurance programs like Medicare or Medicaid, which have their own reimbursement rules 
• Out of pocket cost: Patients may still have to pay co-pays, deductibles, coinsurance or other fees depending on their specific insurance plan.
