Susan B. Allen’s laboratory services provide accurate, timely results to aid in the diagnosing of medical conditions. Our Laboratory Technologist are educated professionals who work with staff in all areas of the Hospital and provide outpatient services to ordering physicians

When is the lab open?

The Susan B. Allen lab is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Emergency Department visits. Medical technologists are on duty 24 hours a day to provide lab results for both diagnosis and continuation of care.

For walk-in outpatients (with the exception of post-accident UDS collections) new hours beginning Sept. 1, 2018 will be 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The lab provides testing for all areas of the hospital including the emergency room, surgery, and inpatients. Outpatient lab facilities are located on first floor.  If you are coming to the Hospital for outpatient lab services, please check in at the Registration Desk before coming to the lab.

Who will draw my blood?

Laboratory phlebotomists, Technologist or licensed nurses may obtain laboratory specimens. Our Laboratory staff members are trained professionals and will try to obtain a blood sample with the least amount of discomfort.

When will my labs be drawn if I’m in the hospital?

If you are an inpatient, your doctor may want your lab tests drawn and completed very early in the morning. Morning phlebotomy rounds for patients in the hospital begin as early as 5:00 a.m.  This ensures your doctor has the results in time for his/her morning rounds.  Most lab tests are processed on site, and results are automatically placed in your medical record; where your doctor can review at any time.
